Tommy Fleetwood wins! Englishman ends 164-tournament wait with Tour Championship triumph, FedEx Cup win KIK BALL
Tommy Fleetwood finally ends his wait for a PGA Tour victory by winning the Tour Championship and Fedex Cup at East Lake on Sunday.
Tommy Fleetwood has ended his wait for a PGA Tour victory with a famous win at the Tour Championship on Sunday night.
The Englishman has let multiple leads slip to heap the pressure on finally joining the PGA Tour winners list, there being the realistic possibility of the 34-year-old becoming a “nearly man” of world golf.
Despite only posting a 68 for the final round of his career, Fleetwood produced one of the rounds of his career to join an illustrious list of winners, both at East Lake and on the PGA Tour in general.
Starting the day alongside Patrick Cantlay as joint-leader, he came through his opening five holes level-par for the day, but birdies on six and seven were statements to the rest of the field.
A bogey on 10 brought Fleetwood back towards the pack, but birdies on 12 and 13 gave him the breathing space that he probably needed as he attempted to blank out the heartache of tournaments gone by.
Although he recorded a bogey at 15, Cantlay and the chasing pack failed to put anything sustained together meant that pars were enough during the closing holes.
Once Cantlay failed to hole a chip for eagle on the last, the job was done for Fleetwood, who tapped in for par on the last for a three-shot victory that gets the monkey off his back ahead of next season.

Fleetwood reacts to Tour Championship, Fedex Cup success
Speaking on the win and becoming FedEx Cup champion in the process, Fleetwood said: “When you’ve lost so many times, a three-shot lead down the last doesn’t feel like that many,” joked Fleetwood, who had tears in his eyes.
“[The fans] are amazing, it makes me a bit emotional. I’m so lucky with the support I get – it’s so special and I hope everyone knows how grateful I am for it.”
He added: “I’ve been a PGA Tour winner for a long time, it’s just been in my mind,” he said.
“I hope I always make it clear how grateful I am for the support. There are times when I’ve felt pretty shocking walking off the golf course, and the support from people helped me immensely.”
Cantlay and Russell Henley would finish in a tie for second, while world number one and long-time FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners and Cameron Young were in a share of fourth.
