Marc Guehi to Liverpool: Reds handed transfer deadline day boost as Crystal Palace ‘close to agreeing’ deal for Premier League replacement KIK BALL
Liverpool are handed a major boost in their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day, according to a report.
Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day, according to a report.
Amidst ongoing speculation surrounding his future, Guehi started and scored for the Eagles in an impressive 3-0 Premier League win at Aston Villa on Sunday evening.
After the match, head coach Oliver Glasner reiterated his desire for Palace to keep hold of Guehi, as he believes that there is not enough time remaining in the transfer window to sign a suitable replacement.
However, chairman Steve Parish stated earlier this summer that Palace cannot afford to see Guehi run down his contract and leave for free in June 2026, suggesting that a sale would be his and the club’s preference.
Premier League champions Liverpool are believed to be the frontrunners to sign the England international and they are allegedly ready to spend over £30m to sign the England international.
Talks are thought to be ongoing between both clubs, while Palace are also eyeing up potential replacements before the window closes at 7pm in England.
Palace close to signing two centre-backs as Guehi waits for Liverpool green light
According to Sky Sports News, Crystal Palace are close to reaching an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion over a deal to sign Igor Julio.
It is understood that the deal includes an option for the Eagles to buy the 27-year-old Brazilian at the end of the season.
The report adds that plans are already in place for Igor to travel to South London for a medical later today, with Selhurst Park now deemed the defenders ‘likely destination’ despite interest in his services from West Ham United.
Palace are also closing in on the signing of Toulouse teenage centre-back Jaydee Canvot, meaning that two new defensive additions for Glasner’s side could pave the way for Guehi to complete a late move to Liverpool.
Having already spent in excess of £250m this summer, Liverpool boss Arne Slot is hoping to bolster his squad further with two new signings on deadline day, including the addition of Guehi who has been identified as the club’s primary centre-back target.
The Reds have also made a significant breakthrough on negotiations with Newcastle United over a record-breaking deal to sign Alexander Isak, who is scheduled to undergo a medical before signing a six-year contract and becoming the most expensive player in Premier League history.
