Man City transfer news: Nathan Ake asking price ‘revealed’ as Tottenham ‘consider re-opening talks’ for defender KIK BALL

Tottenham Hotspur may look to reignite their interest in Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in the January transfer window, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur may look to reignite their interest in Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in the January transfer window, according to a report.

Under the tutelage of new head coach Thomas Frank, Spurs spent around £180m on eight new signings in the summer transfer window, including the high-profile additions of Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus.

Spurs also signed centre-back Kevin Danso permanently following a loan spell last season, while fellow defenders Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic also made the switch to North London, though the latter has since joined Hamburger SV on loan.

Both Takai and Radu Dragusin are currently sidelined with injuries, leaving Frank with captain Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Danso as his three natural centre-back options.

Some might argue that Spurs are light in the centre-back department and could be walking on thin ice, considering that both Romero and Van de Ven have previously suffered with injury problems.

Spurs consider Ake talks as Frank wants to sign experienced defender

Tottenham were linked with a few defenders towards the end of the summer window, including Manuel Akanji who eventually joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal.

However, Spurs now hold a ‘keen’ interest in a different Man City defender, as Caught Offside claims that the Lilywhites will considering re-opening talks to sign 30-year-old Ake.

The report adds that Frank would like to add an experienced name to his squad who can provide cover at both centre-back and left-back.

It is thought that Ake’s flexibility and Champions League pedigree could be key assets for Spurs, who are set to weigh up a January swoop before making a push for European qualification in the second half of the season.

Van de Ven and Ben Davies are both left-footed options to play at centre-back for Spurs, while the latter is also battling with Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence for starts at left-back.

Ake attracting interest from multiple clubs as Man City set valuation

Tottenham are not the only team believed to be keeping tabs on Ake, as Nottingham Forest and Everton are also said to be keen on the Dutchman, while Newcastle United and West Ham United both held an interest earlier this summer.

Ake has two years remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium and Man City are said to value the defender between £15m and £20m.

Man City were happy to retain the services of Ake this summer as the former Chelsea academy talent counts as a homegrown player for their Premier League and Champions League squads.

Since joining the Citizens from Bournemouth in August 2020, Ake has made a total of 146 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and winning 10 trophies.

Ake played 41 times for Man City during their historic treble-winning campaign in 2022-23, but the four-time Premier League winner has been plagued with injuries in recent years and was limited to just 20 outings last season, including 10 games in the top flight.

The 54-cap Netherlands international now faces stern competition from Josko Gvardiol and summer signing Rayan Ait-Nouri for regular starts on the left side of defence in Guardiola’s team.
