Man United transfer news: Andre Onana loan offer imminent after ‘loss’ of Manchester City goalkeeper KIK BALL

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana could reportedly soon be the subject of a loan offer from a European club, thanks partly to a Manchester City goalkeeper.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana could reportedly soon be the subject of a loan offer from a European club as he comes to terms with the signing of Senne Lammens.

The Premier League transfer window closed with Onana still at Old Trafford, but the Cameroon international is arguably now Ruben Amorim‘s third-choice goalkeeper following the arrival of Lammens.

Man United struck an £18.2m deal with Royal Antwerp to sign the Belgian on deadline day, and owing to Onana and Altay Bayindir‘s unconvincing performances, Lammens could immediately be instilled as Amorim’s new number one.

Onana will not be offered an escape route by another English club, but teams in the Turkish Super Lig have until September 12 to sign new players, providing another alternative path to career redemption for the ex-Inter Milan shot-stopper.

According to journalist Hasan Tuncel on 61saat, Trabzonspor are preparing to come forward with a loan bid for Onana, having failed in their pursuit of another Premier League goalkeeper.

Trabzonspor to bid for Man United’s Onana after Stefan Ortega ‘loss’

The Turkish outfit were also said to have been in for Manchester City‘s Stefan Ortega, but they have now ‘lost’ the experienced German goalkeeper and are instead prioritising a temporary deal for Onana.

Trabzonspor may have to fend off the attention of Saudi Pro League clubs to bring in the Cameroon international, though, as teams in the Gulf state can also make new signings for another week until September 10.

It has been suggested that Onana could consider a switch to the Middle East despite his previous stance, having been dead-set on staying at Man United and attempting to get back into Amorim’s good books.

However, the 29-year-old will almost certainly have to leave if he wants regular game time in the next few months, although Man United would likely prefer a permanent exit than a loan deal for their former number one.

Onana’s contract at the Theatre of Dreams expires in 2028, but the club can trigger a 12-month extension option and could activate that clause to protect his value if he is still at the club in 2026.

The Cameroonian has kept 24 clean sheets in 102 games for the Red Devils in all tournaments, but his only appearance so far this season came in their embarrassing EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

What about Bayindir, Tom Heaton‘s Man United futures?

Onana is not the only goalkeeper impacted by Lammens’s arrival at Old Trafford, as Bayindir and the veteran Tom Heaton will also be sharing a dressing room with the youthful Belgian.

Bayindir was tipped to leave the Theatre of Dreams after just one season, having been restricted to a single appearance in 2023-24, but he racked up 10 games in 2024-25 and is now likely to stay as Lammens’s direct competition.

The 27-year-old has been far from reliable this season either – showcasing particular vulnerabilities from crosses and set-piece situations – but he appears to have leapfrogged the error-strewn Onana in the pecking order nonetheless.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old Heaton is more than content with his role as Man United’s third-choice goalkeeper, and the Red Devils academy product crucially takes up a home-grown spot in their ranks.
