Man United transfer news: Senne Lammens details revealed as ‘total agreement’ reached for goalkeeper signing KIK BALL
Manchester United reportedly agree an £18.2m deal to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp – but what does the deal mean for Emiliano Martinez’s future?
Manchester United have reportedly struck a total agreement to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day.
Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim has been in search of an alternative in between the posts following Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir‘s error-strewn start to the campaigns.
Bayindir has failed to convince in any of his three Premier League starts, while Onana was culpable for both of Grimsby Town’s goals in their shock EFL Cup loss to the League Two side last month.
Man United do have 39-year-old Tom Heaton as another option in goal, and some of the veteran’s teammates apparently wanted Amorim to give the third-choice shot-stopper a chance after strong training performances.
However, it was always likely that Man United would bolster their goalkeeping department on deadline day, and according to The Athletic, a complete agreement to sign Lammens from Royal Antwerp has now been reached.
Lammens fee revealed as Man United strike ‘total’ transfer agreement
The Red Devils will supposedly fork out €21m (£18.2m) to bring Lammens to the club, and the 6ft 4in goalkeeper will sign a five-year deal with Amorim’s side until the summer of 2030.
Lammens is currently on his way to Manchester as all parties endeavour to get a deal over the line before the 7pm deadline, but the transfer could still go through as late as 9pm if the Red Devils submit the necessary documentation to the Premier League.
The report adds that there is no sell-on clause included in the deal to take Lammens to Old Trafford, as the 2002-born goalkeeper makes the marquee move to the Premier League following a successful two-year spell at Royal Antwerp.
Lammens came through the youth ranks at Club Brugge before joining Antwerp on a free transfer in 2023, and he leaves having registered 12 clean sheets in 64 matches for the Belgian outfit across all competitions.
The 23-year-old was called up to the senior Belgium squad for the first time in March, but he missed Antwerp’s most recent two Jupiler Pro League matches amid the speculation surrounding his future.
Lammens to join Man United: What does it mean for Emiliano Martinez?
Man United’s breakthrough on the Lammens front comes mere hours after the Red Devils were said to have been advancing in talks to sign Aston Villa and Argentina number one Emiliano Martinez, having initially struggled to strike an agreement with the Belgian.
Martinez was a notable absentee from the Lions’ 3-0 Premier League loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday night, and when asked about his goalkeeper’s situation, Villa boss Unai Emery simply replied: “Marco Bizot”.
Personal terms were allegedly agreed between Martinez and Man United, but the Red Devils will not be completing a move for both him and Lammens in the same window, leaving Martinez’s future in limbo ahead of the 7pm deadline.
However, the World Cup winner may have an alternative escape route from Villa Park, as Fabrizio Romano claims that Turkish giants Galatasaray have discussed the possibility of a transfer in recent hours.
Galatasaray were formerly linked with Manchester City number one Ederson, but Fenerbahce are now thought to have jumped to the head of the queue for the Brazilian.
