Oscar Piastri wins Dutch Grand Prix after three major retirements, shock podium KIK BALL
Oscar Piastri takes a significant step towards winning the F1 title with victory in Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri has taken a major step towards winning the Formula 1 title with victory in Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix, a race which also saw Lando Norris retire during the closing stages.
The Australian led from start to finish at Circuit Zandvoort to extend his led at the top of the Championship, but he was handed a helping hand by his teammate’s issues.
Norris’ McLaren suffered engine failure and led to his immediate withdrawal, Max Verstappen not able to take advantage from the resulting safety car to finish second behind Piastri.
In what was a dramatic race, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc both crashed out of the race, the former of his own doing as his frustrating season continued.
As far as Leclerc is concerned, he was not to blame after Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli crashed into him attempting an overtake shortly after Leclerc had left the pits, subsequently being handed a 10-second penalty.
That cost the rookie a points finish, benefitting those who finished between seventh and 10th in Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso, Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon.
British youngster Oliver Bearman also finished an outstanding sixth in the Haas after starting from the pit lane, while there were major celebrations at RB as Isack Hadjar delivered the first podium of his career.
George Russell and Alexander Albon would complete the scoring in fourth and fifth respectively.
