Burton Albion and Lincoln City put their league duties aside this Tuesday night as the two teams battle for a spot in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The Brewers will be looking to progress past the second round of the competition for the first time in five years, while the Imps will be hoping to return to winning ways after their dramatic draw at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

After four successive years of first round eliminations, Burton were finally able to end their rotten run in the EFL Cup with a win away at Tranmere Rovers.

The Brewers needed penalties to take out the League Two team, but fans certainly will not care as they prepare for Tuesday’s second round clash.

Burton are not coming into the fixture with much momentum, having failed to win any of their last three league matches – including last weekend’s trip to Stockport County, which ended in a 2-1 defeat.

On the plus side, Gary Bowyer’s men are unbeaten in their two home games this season, picking up a 2-1 win over Mansfield Town in their season opener before holding Port Vale to a draw.

Lincoln, on the other hand, endured a frustrating draw at Bolton over the weekend – one which saw them concede a 97th minute own goal equaliser.

The Imps were seemingly heading for their fourth straight win across all competitions until Thomas Hamer found the back of his own net.

Nevertheless, the League One side will be encouraged with their start to the season. Six matches into the campaign, Lincoln have only suffered one defeat, which came away against Wimbledon.

Michael Skubala’s men will also be encouraged by their recent record at the Pirelli Stadium, which has seen them win two of their last three matches.

Burton Albion are dealing with a trio of injuries ahead of their cup clash on Tuesday.

Jack Hazlehurst is nursing an ankle injury, James Jones is struggling with a foot problem, while Terence Vancooten is recovering from a leg issue.

Lincoln City are also dealing with a handful of injuries ahead of their trip to Burton. Jack Moylan, for instance, is expected to miss the match as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

Dom Jefferies and Lewis Montsma, on the other hand, are nearing their returns but remain doubtful for the cup clash.
